The greatest movie of all time is about to get better. Available in September, The Godfather: The Coppola Restoration is on the must-have list for fall DVD and – better still! – Hi Definition BluRay. Both Godfather I and II have been restored and the often-maligned, underappreciated third installment has been fully remastered. Included in the 5 disc set are the usual extra scenes and interviews you find on most box-sets, but for the hardcore film buffs among us there’s detailed info on the restoration process itself as well as a few short films.

Little fanfare and a lot of depth is how AMC debuted Mad Men, their dark, sumptuous, now double Golden Globe-winning take on the ad game in the early '60's. Their strategy has clearly paid dividends: Mad Men is a critical darling and now one of the most hotly anticipated DVD releases of the summer. If you haven't seen it, use the next two weeks to catch up before the second season premieres on July 27th. You'll be drinking and smoking at work before you know it.

Al Green has released more albums in his career most people have had bowel movements. Now, at 62 years young, comes his much-lauded Lay it Down, a harmoniously crafted ode to life and love. Indy fans rejoice! Right in time for the long-awaited premiere of The Crystal Skull, Paramount has dropped Indiana Jones: The Adventure Collection, a three-disc ouevre featuring special edition versions of the first three installments of the series. Why should I buy this, you might ask? Well, if you don’t already own these movies, question answered. If you DO own them, well, you don’t have the special edition that all your IMDB-board buddies are sure to hold over your head and use to undermine your credibility. Introductions to each film by both Lucas and Spielberg, storyboard sequences, photo galleries, countless interviews, and behind-the-scenes explanations are also included, in case you need some tangible reasons to own yet another box-set.

McMafia's one of those books you hear your friends talking about, and they say how great it is, and then you read it, and it turns out to be pretty good after all. Balkan expert Misha Glenny took a break from writing for rags like the London and New York Review of Books to research this sprawling investigation into the lives of those involved in the business of crime, and in those three years he amassed one heckuva lot of material. McMafia is the result, of course, and it doesn't disappoint. Glenny's time spent immersed in the criminal has allowed him a unique perspective, and his book is one that shouldn't be missed.

Period. A must-read.

Eat, Pray, Love is a book that I came across by chance that captured my attention immediately. Though it is sort of the authos' semi autobiography I think there are themes and situations that we can relate to and appreciate. She also wrote for GQ, how cool is that? Below is a review from the New Yorker.

At the age of thirty-one, Gilbert moved with her husband to the suburbs of New York and began trying to get pregnant, only to realize that she wanted neither a child nor a husband. Three years later, after a protracted divorce, she embarked on a yearlong trip of recovery, with three main stops: Rome, for pleasure (mostly gustatory, with a special emphasis on gelato); an ashram outside of Mumbai, for spiritual searching; and Bali, for "balancing." These destinations are all on the beaten track, but Gilbert's exuberance and her self-deprecating humor enliven the proceedings: recalling the first time she attempted to speak directly to God, she says, "It was all I could do to stop myself from saying, 'I've always been a big fan of your work."
